We seek an Ophthalmic Medical Assistant / Technician to join our patient care team at Memorial Eye Institute in Harrisburg, PA. Our ideal candidate already has Ophthalmic Technician experience or is already a certified Medical Assistant/Ophthalmic Technician. In this role, your primary tasks are to assist the providers with diagnostic and treatment-oriented procedures and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do:

  • Collect and document detailed medical and ocular histories, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform a variety of diagnostic and vision function tests, including:
  1. Applanation tonometry
  2. Refraction
  3. Retinoscopy
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment such as the Humphrey Field Analyzer and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to capture eye measurements and assist in patient evaluations.
  • Prepare patients for eye exams by administering dilating drops and providing clear instructions.
  • Report any changes in a patient’s visual acuity or symptoms to the ophthalmologist.
  • Educate patients on the proper use and care of eye drops, medications, and contact lenses.
  • Assist with inventory management and exam room supply maintenance.
  • Support clinical staff with additional administrative or clinical tasks as needed.

 

Qualifications

What You Will Bring: 

 

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Completing an accredited Medical Assistant or Ophthalmic Technician program (COA, COT, or MA certification) is preferred.

  • Previous experience in ophthalmology, optometry, or as a medical assistant or scribe is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems is a plus.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
