We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pre-Op Intake Nurse / Perioperative RN to join our team at Carroll County Eye Surgery Center located in Westminster, MD. This role is essential to ensuring a safe and seamless surgical experience for our patients. The nurse will support both preoperative intake and perioperative care for patients undergoing ophthalmic procedures such as cataract, glaucoma, and laser procedures.

 

 

Responsibilities

Preoperative Intake:

  • Complete pre-op assessments including health history, medications, allergies, and anesthesia clearances.

  • Educate patients and caregivers about the surgical process and post-operative care.

  • Ensure all consents, labs, and pre-surgical testing are completed and documented.

  • Coordinate with the surgical and anesthesia teams to prepare patients for surgery.

Perioperative Care:

  • Prepare patients physically and emotionally for eye surgery procedures.

  • Administer prescribed preoperative medications and eye drops.

  • Maintain sterile technique and assist with intraoperative care when needed.

  • Monitor and document patient vital signs and status throughout the perioperative period.

  • Ensure compliance with infection control and safety protocols.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland

  • Current BLS and ACLS certification

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in pre-op, PACU, or perioperative nursing (eye surgery experience preferred)

  • Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems

  • Excellent communication and patient education skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an ambulatory surgery center (ASC)
  • Previous experience with ophthalmic surgery or eye-specific medications

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for long periods

  • Lift and move up to 25 pounds.

  • Perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity

$35.30 - $44.00 an hour


Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as, but not limited to full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility, annual educational reimbursement, and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO).
