The Patient Eligibility Coordinator is responsible for verifying patient insurance benefits prior to scheduled
appointments. This role ensures accurate insurance information is obtained and documented to support
clean claim submission, reduce denials, and improve front-end revenue cycle performance. The Patient
Eligibility Coordinator works closely with front desk staff, clinical teams, billing, and patients to ensure
financial clearance

Responsibilities

What You Will Do:

 

 

Insurance Verification

• Verify patient eligibility and benefits for all upcoming appointments using payer portals and PM
   tools.
• Confirm coverage details including copayments, plan limitations/participation and
   referral/authorization requirements.
• Identify insurance discrepancies or inactive coverage and communicate needed corrections.
   Patient Communication
• Notify patients in advance regarding estimated out-of-pocket costs when applicable.
• Explain insurance coverage limitations, non-covered services, and payment expectations.
• Collaborate with financial counselors for high-cost cases or self-pay options.
   Data Entry & Documentation
• Accurately update patient insurance details, policy numbers, subscriber information, and
   coverage notes in system.
• Maintain documentation of verification results
• Ensure all encounters are financially cleared prior to the date of service.
   Denial Prevention & Revenue Cycle Support
• Work with billing teams to resolve issues related to insurance setup, eligibility, or authorizationrelated denials.
• Identify trends in recurring insurance issues and recommend process improvements.
• Collaborate with front desk and registration to reduce errors in patient intake

 

 

 

Qualifications

What You Will Bring:

• 2+ year of insurance verification, patient access experience in a healthcare setting.
• Knowledge of commercial, Medicare, Medicaid payor rules.
• Experience with EMR systems and insurance portals.
• Strong communication skills – able to clearly explain coverage details to patients and staff.
• High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times.
• Stay current on payer policy changes, authorization rules, and portal updates.
• Meet department productivity, accuracy, and turnaround time standards


Education and/or Experience
• 2+ year of insurance verification, patient access experience in a healthcare setting.
• Knowledge of commercial, Medicare, Medicaid payor rules.
• Experience with EMR systems and insurance portals
